Cross
ventilation is basically a concept where cool air is pulled
in from one window and hot air is pushed out from another. Cross ventilation is
the most important concept that needs to be kept in mind while planning the
architecture of a house. It ensures the well-being of the habitats. Now, not
everyone can have multiple windows in a house, considering safety and other
demerits. Cross ventilation
can still be achieved by other means.
Doors
Keep
the doors in the room opened to create cross-ventilation with a single window,
if your surroundings are safe then you can always open all the windows and
doors in the entire house. This allows proper ventilation and this way the
fresh air flushes the stale air out of the house.
Attic fans
Attic
fans pull air through open windows in a house and expel the hot air out of the
house. This technique is highly recommendable during hot, dry days.
Window fans
Window
fans can be used in more ways than one to cool down the temperature. If the
inside of the house is hot and feels suffocated, whereas the outside of the
house is cooler, then you can always place a window fan at the window which will pull the cool air in and push the
hot air out.
Ceiling fans
We
all have ceiling fans in our house and air movement can always be achieved with
the help of a ceiling fan, it may though not be cross-ventilation. But, you can
always cool down the temperature of the room by switching on the ceiling fan
and opening a single window in the room which will improve airflow in an
otherwise suffocated room and lower the perceived temperature in the room.
